Seagrass Gallery is proud to present an exhibit of panoramic photography by Camano Island's Mark Dodge, on display now at Islander's Restaurant, and continuing through July 2009. Mark has an intuitive sense of composition that is evident in all of his photographs. His interest in panoramics began 10 years ago when he cropped a few appropriate standard-sized images and liked the resulting compositions. He has since perfected techniques for creating unnaturally wide-angle panoramics to create an "accurate misrepresentation of nature." These rather painterly landscapes are created by combining multiple images by hand using layering and masking (no "stitching").
Mark's photography has won dozens of awards at local, regional, and national shows. Both he and his wife Vicki are award-winning artists represented on Camano Island by Seagrass Gallery. Stop by Islanders Restaurant and enjoy great food and outstanding artwork. Visit Seagrass Gallery to see more of Mark's work, and that of many other talented regional artisans. Islander's Restaurant is in the Camano Commons at Terry's Corner, 848 N Sunrise Boulevard; Seagrass Gallery is located at the Camano Plaza, 370 N. East Camano Drive; both are just a few minutes drive from Stanwood. Seagrass Gallery At the Camano Plaza www.seagrassgallery.com Call Doris Platis at 360-387-8300 Or email doris@seagrassgallery.com

In March of 2004, Dave and Anna Porter made a decision to reduce the impact their lifestyle was having on the planet. Among other changes, they sold their “McMansion” in Woodinville, with the enormous yard and Dave even made what many would consider the ultimate sacrifice: he gave up his Jaguar for a Toyota Prius. In 2006, the Porters decided to go even further. They vowed to transform their ramshackle 100-year-old beachfront house into an energy-efficient, environmentally responsible home that would meet the strictest green home guidelines while providing a beautiful, comfortable living space that would meet their family’s current and future needs. To help others benefit from their experience, they committed to making the project a demonstration home for green design, systems, and materials, and to document their options, choices, and decisions as well as the performance of the home. The result is “Going Green at the Beach,” a unique exploration of the possibilities open to all of us to make meaningful changes in how we live. Come tour the home at Warm Beach in Stanwood from 1-5 p.m., Saturday & Sunday October 27-28, November 3-4, and November 10-11, and you'll also be able to enjoy a selection of regional artwork on display and for sale.

Jan. 1 through Feb. 5 DECEMBER 2002 NOVEMBER 2002 OCTOBER 2002 SEPTEMBER 2002 JUNE 2002 MAY 2002 FEBRUARY 2002 JANUARY 2002 What is the Color of Dust? This workshop was rescheduled due to snow (was Jan. 27) (This is the third in a series of color workshops conducted by Michelle.) Color can be many things; an etymological discussion of the true definition of khaki. It can allude to the psychological impact of color at dusk on the Aegean, or how to make colors "sing." It can identify a race of people, for instance the "Blue people of the Sahara." It can determine the aesthetics and perception of a design. The purpose of this workshop is to have fun with color; to become friends with your paint box; to manipulate mandarin orange and puce until you cannot create without them; to become an explorer of neutrals; and as Jason Pollen said "to stay close to the sandbox." In this second in a series of color workshops, you will venture into the complexities of contrasts and extension squared to find exciting ways to bring an active, boisterous palette to your artwork. Therefore, it is only fair to introduce color harmony and subtleness to your palette by studying color bridges, neutrals and texture. We will explore color perception (a.k.a. light), and finally we will delve into natural color design by breaking down the key elements we see everyday when we journey out of our back door. Michele will be administrating a Munsell Hue Test to everyone so you can see where your color strengths and weaknesses lie. You will receive a color print out of your personal hue circle showing your color perception. Cost: $80.00, which includes the test and results and some special paper, an instruction manual and acrylic overlays. You will need to bring scissors, glue stick, double stick tape, and a watercolor set along with brushes and a small pad of watercolor paper. Daniel Smith has good quality sets. Also, bring spectacular photos, or other sources of color inspiration from which you can work. Bring some burning color questions or sample of your work for feedback. Lunch and beverages will be provided by Quacky Studios. Email: vicki at quacky.net
or call 360-387-8295 to make a reservation. Artful Prayer Flags Create Buddhist-inspired prayer flags and send your energy and thoughts out into the world. We will paint and print images onto 6" square cloth then complete the flag with a screening of a thoughtful message. You will learn how to print on to fabric with rubber stamps, softoleum, wood blocks and silk screens. Basic instruction in Gocco printing will be demonstrated, as well as important color and design considerations when creating complex cloth. You will create three sets of prayer flags with five flags per string. Cost: $75, which includes most supplies. Quacky Studios will provide lunch and beverages. Participants need to bring rubber gloves, a roll of paper towels, one aluminum pie tin, and one aluminum muffin tin (disposable type); six each plastic cups that will fit inside the muffin tin. If you have wonderful stamps or found objects to print with, bring 'em! Bring also creative ideas and energy! Email: vicki at quacky.net
